Surmado$99/month (Pro, billed annually)Vendor wording: "Pro is $99/month billed annually, or $150 month to month". The rendered plan cards carry the other half: PRO+ is $199/mo billed annually ("$2,388/year") and $250/mo month to month, on a toggle reading "Billed annually · Save 34%". The AI Visibility report is not sold on its own. It is one of three research "Jobs" inside the membership, five a month on Pro and ten on Pro+, and "Members can buy extra Jobs for $25 anytime (valid 30 days)". A single Job can be bought outright at $50 with no membership: "PAYG Jobs ($50) never expire", which buys "Scout access for 14 days per Job". ToolPriceBuilt for
Profound$99/mo Starter · $399 GrowthEnterprise brand teams
The category leader by funding and headcount, a $96M Series C at a $1B valuation in February 2026, 700+ enterprise customers. Starter buys 50 prompts on ChatGPT only, one seat; the second engine arrives at $399/mo. Everything that makes it enterprise software sits above that.
Peec AI$80/mo · 50 promptsMarketing teams in Europe
Berlin-based, ~$29M raised. Clean product, prompt-count pricing, strong on competitor comparison views. Every tier below Enterprise includes three chosen models, 50 prompts does not mean five engines, though extra models can be bought on any tier at $30 to $140/mo. Read direct off peec.ai/pricing with a browser on 14 August 2026, which prices in dollars from here; the figure this table carried before was a March reading off a review site, in euros.
AthenaHQFree tier · $295/mo StarterAnyone trying it, then agencies
YC-backed. Positions as GEO strategy rather than measurement alone, the Starter price reflects the service half. It also has the most generous free entry in this table: Essential is free across ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, Gemini and Claude with unlimited members. It is credit-metered, though, $25 of free credit, 300 credits, so it is a free trial of five engines, not a free plan that keeps running.
Otterly.AI$29/mo Lite · $189-489 aboveBudget solos, then agencies
One of the earliest movers, and the cheapest way into a standalone AEO tool from an established vendor: Lite is $29/mo for 15 prompts. Every paid tier watches the same four engines, ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, Copilot, with Claude, Gemini and AI Mode as paid add-ons. Standard and Premium buy prompt volume and client seats, not more engines.
Searchable$125/mo Pro · $400 Scale · $999 EnterpriseAgencies buying tracking and content as one bill
A London vendor (Searchable Limited) that sells AEO tracking bundled with content production and technical audits rather than beside them: Pro is $125/mo for "100 tracked prompts / model" with 9,000 AI answers analysed, plus 20 articles and 200 site audits a month, unlimited seats and unlimited domains. White-label reports, API access and Looker Studio arrive on Scale at $400/mo. There is no free plan, "Searchable provides a 14-day free trial on the Pro plan and a free AI visibility report without signup". Read 26 August 2026, and read twice: the plan grid prints all nine engines against every tier under "Select in onboarding", while the prose on the same page scopes Pro to "ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, and Perplexity" and calls Copilot "Available as a custom add-on for enterprise plans". The same page says it "offers three pricing tiers" and then lists four.
Semrush / Ahrefs Brand RadarBundled in the suite · Ahrefs Lite from $129/moTeams already paying for the suite
If you already pay for either suite you may already own AI visibility reporting, and the marginal cost is nothing. Ahrefs names Brand Radar on Lite ($129/mo, 5 tracked AI prompts), Standard ($249, 10) and Advanced ($449, 20), not on its $29 Starter tier. Semrush bundles AI tracking into its main plans rather than selling it as a separate product. Neither is sold standalone, so buying a whole SEO suite to get one report is an expensive way in. Ahrefs' llms.txt generator is a free tool and needs no plan at all.
Mangools AI Search WatcherFrom $15.60/mo, billed annually (read 9 Aug 2026)Solo SEOs on a budget
The lowest entry price in this table when it was last readable, and an add-on to Mangools rather than a standalone product. The $15.60 is an annual-billing entry price in the vendor's own words, "Subscriptions start at $15.60 per month with annual plans", read on 9 August 2026 and not retrievable since, so a month-to-month buyer pays more than the number in this column. Coverage is given as ChatGPT, Google AIO and "other LLMs"; Perplexity is not named. The per-tier table still renders client-side, so what Basic, Premium and Agency each buy has not been read.
Scrunch$250/mo Core · 4 enginesBrand and agency teams
One published paid price, and an engine ladder the same shape as Profound's. Core is $250/mo for "125 unique prompts" on four engines, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AIO and Copilot, with one brand workspace, five user licences, five competitors and one country, after a 7-day free trial. The nine-engine list that adds Claude, Gemini, Meta AI, Google AI Mode and Grok is Enterprise-only and carries no price. Read 21 August 2026, when the pricing page also carried a banner reading "Learn about the next chapter for Scrunch" that it does not explain.
Monde AI€75/mo Starter · €169 ProTeams who want five engines cheaply
The most engines per unit of money at an entry tier in this table, and the only vendor here that meters none of the things everyone else meters. Starter is €75/month for 25 prompts across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and AI Overviews, run daily, with "Unlimited countries" and "Unlimited seats". What it charges for instead is competitors: one on Starter, three on Pro (€169/month, 100 prompts), unlimited on Enterprise (€424+/month, 300+ prompts). Prices print in euros. Read 21 August 2026.
Omnia€79/mo Growth · €279 ProSmall marketing teams who want the fixes written for them
The one here that does not stop at measurement: alongside tracking it sells an agent it calls Omnio that finds why you are not visible and drafts the work for you to approve. Growth is €79/month for 25 prompts (€63 on annual billing, "Yearly (save 20%)"), Pro €279 for 100. Check the engine row before comparing it on price: every tier carries the same line, "Monitor 4 AI engines by default, unlock up to 7", ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Perplexity and AI Overviews are included, while Claude, Gemini and Copilot are each "(available on request)". No free plan; every button reads "Start Free 14-Day Trial". Prices print in euros. Read 31 August 2026.
Orchly$49/mo Essential · $125 ProSolos and agencies buying tracking and content as one bill
The second vendor in this table that sells an agent rather than a report. It describes itself as "AI agents" that "monitor search visibility, create & optimize content, fix issues", and it prices the whole bundle rather than the tracking. Essential is $49/month for "25 AI Prompts, refreshed daily" plus 20 articles, 100 pages of audit and one website; Pro is $125/month for 100 prompts, 50 articles and three websites. Annual billing drops those to $37 and $93. Read the engine row before the price: every paid tier carries the same sentence, "ChatGPT, Google AI Overview and Perplexity are included in the base plan. Gemini, AI Mode, Grok and Claude are available as on-demand paid add-ons". Three engines is what $49 and $125 both buy, and the other four are metered on top at either price. No free plan; "all plans include a 7-day free trial". Read 5 September 2026.
Geoptie$49/mo Starter month to month · $41 on annualSolos comparing on prompt count
Read the billing toggle before comparing this row against any other. The page prints "$41/mo" for Starter, and that is the annual rate: its own struck-through figure is $588/yr, which is $49/month paid monthly, against $490/yr on annual. The FAQ says so plainly, "you pay for 10 months and get 12". Starter buys "15 monitoring prompts", Professional $83/mo annual buys 100, Enterprise $333/mo buys 400, and above that "Monitor 100 more prompts at $99/mo". Engines do not move with price: all three tiers read "Any 4 of 7 AI engines", the same shape as Peec's "choose 3 models". The seven are never enumerated on the pricing page. Its FAQ names four of them, "ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews", so the remaining three are something you would have to ask for. Audit reports, content generations and team members are unlimited on every tier. Read 5 September 2026.
Surmado$99/mo Pro · $199 Pro+ · $50 a single reportSmall businesses buying the website and the report together
The only entry here that does not sell AI visibility as a subscription at all. Surmado builds and runs the website, and the AI Visibility report is one of three research "Jobs" bundled into that membership: "Included with every plan." Pro is $99/month billed annually or $150 month to month and carries five Jobs a month, Pro+ carries ten, and a single Job can be bought outright at $50 with no membership at all, which is the cheapest one-off multi-engine read in this table. Count the engines before the money: seven, flat across every tier, and it is the only vendor here naming Meta AI, Grok and DeepSeek. Google AI Overviews is not one of the seven, which is the surface most of this market prices first. The unit is the report, not the month: "50+" "Persona-Aware Queries" run once per Job, varied by customer type, location and language, so five Jobs is five reports rather than a prompt set that reruns on a schedule. Prices read 6 September 2026 in a browser, because the plan cards render client-side: the annual toggle prints $99 and $199, month to month prints $150 and $250, and the toggle itself reads "Billed annually · Save 34%".
SE Ranking$129/mo Core · free daily checkSEO teams who want one bill
The third suite that sells AI visibility inside an SEO platform rather than beside it, and the only one of the three that publishes a per-tier prompt count: Core is $129/mo month to month or $103.20 on annual billing, carrying "2k keywords & 100 prompts to track daily"; Growth is $279/mo for 250 daily prompts. The half worth knowing before you pay anyone is free, its AI Visibility Tracker page runs a check across AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity against up to five competitors, with no account and "5 free attempts left for today". Read 21 August 2026.
CiteRankthis product$3-19/moFounders tracking their own product
Five engines, your questions, a weekly report with share of voice. Probes run on a shared, scheduled browser pool rather than an API, which is what makes the price work, and means results land weekly rather than on demand.

Start free, because you can: AthenaHQ's Essential tier covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, Gemini and Claude for nothing, and will tell you whether you have a problem before you buy anything. It is metered rather than perpetual, so treat it as a five-engine trial. After that the market splits cleanly by what you are buying. Measurement, small: CiteRank $3/mo for ten questions on three engines, Otterly.AI $29/month for fifteen prompts on four. Measurement, more of it: Peec AI $80/mo for fifty prompts on three chosen models, with the best comparison views here and no charge for extra countries. Enterprise software: Profound, where $99/month is "ChatGPT tracking only" and the real product, nine engines, agents, AI-traffic attribution, SSO and SOC 2, sits above $399/month. Omnia is the one here that does not stop at measurement: Growth is €79/month for twenty-five prompts and an agent it calls Omnio that drafts the fix for you to approve, which is a different purchase from a report and priced like one. Check its engine row before you compare it with anything else, "Monitor 4 AI engines by default, unlock up to 7", with Claude, Gemini and Copilot each "(available on request)". The one figure nobody prints next to their price is engines, and it is the figure that decides the comparison: fifty prompts on one engine and fifteen on four are sold within thirty dollars of each other and are not the same product. CiteRank publishes this table and is a row in it, which is why every competitor's cell names the page it was read off and the day it was read.

The short version

who each one is for

The category split into two tiers almost immediately. The top tier, Profound, Peec AI, AthenaHQ, Otterly's upper plans, is enterprise software: multi-seat, agency-shaped, sold to brand teams with a budget line for it, running from a few hundred a month upwards. The bottom tier used to be nearly empty. It is filling in: Otterly sells a $29/mo Lite plan, Mangools published an add-on from $15.60/mo on annual billing when its price was last readable in August 2026, and we are at $3 month to month. A founder tracking one product has real choices now, and this page would be lying if it still said otherwise.

The cheapest way to see five engines is not a paid plan at all, and as of 21 August 2026 there are three free ways in rather than one. AthenaHQ's Essential tier is free across ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, Gemini and Claude, with unlimited members, more engines, at zero, than our own $3 plan covers, but it is credit-metered: $25 of free credit, 300 credits, and then it stops. SE Ranking's AI Visibility Tracker page runs a check against AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity with no account at all, capped at "5 free attempts left for today", which resets rather than running out. And HubSpot gives away a one-shot check, "Free One-Time AEO Brand Check, No Account Required", across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. This page said until tonight that AthenaHQ's free tier was the cheapest way to see five engines; a metered trial and a daily allowance are not the same offer, and the honest version names both.

One step above free, the cheapest way to see more than five engines is not a subscription either. Surmado sells its AI Visibility report as a single research Job at $50, with no membership: "PAYG Jobs ($50) never expire", read on its pricing page on 6 September 2026, and that Job buys "Scout access for 14 days". That one report covers seven platforms, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Meta AI, Grok and DeepSeek, which is the widest engine list on this page. Two things to check before comparing it with a monthly figure. Google AI Overviews is not one of the seven. And the unit is the report rather than the month, so it answers what the engines say today and it does not watch the number move.

What none of the three buys you is the thing everything below is priced for. Competitor tracking is not part of AthenaHQ's free tier, its pricing page attaches "Unlimited competitor tracking, impersonation, and benchmarking" to the $295 Starter tier, not to Essential, as read on 5 August 2026, though SE Ranking's free check does take up to five competitors, which is the most generous free thing in this market and worth using before you pay anyone, us included. HubSpot's grader is one check with no schedule behind it. All three are excellent ways to find out whether any of this matters to you, and none of them watches a number move week after week. Which tools sell competitor share of voice, and at which tier reads every tier in this table against that one question.

What separates the cheap tier is not the price, it is what the price includes. Read the engine list before the number. Profound's $99 Starter is ChatGPT alone, and the second engine costs $399. Otterly's $29 Lite covers four engines but only 15 prompts, with Claude, Gemini and Google AI Mode charged on top. Peec caps every tier below Enterprise at three models. Two tools at the same headline price can be measuring very different amounts of the internet. Tracked engine by engine, that gap gets stark: the most expensive entry plan in this table is the one that does not cover Perplexity. It is starker still inside a single vendor's "Google", AI Overviews and AI Mode are priced as two separate surfaces almost everywhere.

That gap is not a technical one. The underlying mechanism is scheduled prompting of answer engines and parsing which domains get cited. Nothing about that costs $99/mo per customer. What costs money at the top of the market is enterprise sales, SOC 2, seats, and years of stored history, all real, all irrelevant if you are one person trying to find out whether ChatGPT names you.

How to actually choose

the axis that decides it

Three questions settle it faster than any feature matrix.

  1. How many people will open the report? If the answer is more than two, you are buying seats and workflow, and the enterprise tier is priced for that. If the answer is one, you are buying a number, and paying enterprise prices for it is a mistake.
  2. Do you need it daily or weekly? Answer engines do not change their minds hourly. Anything faster than weekly is mostly noise, and a single run is genuinely unreliable, since only about 2.2% of cited domains recur across three runs of the same prompt. Weekly cadence is a feature, not a limitation.
  3. Do you want to be told what to do about it? Some of these tools sell strategy alongside measurement. That is a real service and it is priced like one. Measurement alone is cheap.

What none of them can do for you

what none of them measures

Every tool in this list measures. None of them changes the answer. The thing that changes the answer is being mentioned somewhere other than your own domain: branded web mentions correlate far more strongly with AI visibility than backlinks do, and on commercial "best X" questions the engines overwhelmingly cite listicles and comparison pages, a large share of them on small, young domains rather than the big publishers.

Which is why the useful half of any of these reports is not your own score. It is the list of domains the engine cited instead of you. That list is a work queue. What to do with it is here.

Before paying anyone, us included, it is worth seeing what one of these reports actually says about your own domain. The free AI visibility checker asks one real buyer question on a real signed-in session and gives you the answer your buyer would have got, on a page you can share. No account, and no obligation to come back.

What is an AEO tool?

the definition

A tool that measures whether answer engines, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, name your product when someone asks a buying question. It works by re-asking a defined set of prompts on a schedule and recording whether you were cited, named or absent, and which third-party pages the engine read to answer. It is not an SEO rank tracker: there is no stable ranking to track, so what is measured is presence across repeated runs, and a single run is noise.

How much do AEO tools cost?

what the category charges

From nothing to several hundred a month, and the spread is mostly about how many engines you get rather than how much measurement. On their own pricing pages: AthenaHQ Essential free (five engines, credit-metered) and SE Ranking's AI visibility check free (five engines, five attempts a day, no account); CiteRank Solo $3/mo (ten questions, three engines); Otterly.AI Lite $29/month (fifteen prompts, four engines); Monde AI Starter €75/month (25 prompts, five engines, unlimited seats and countries); Omnia Growth €79/month (25 prompts, four engines by default); Peec AI Starter $80/mo (fifty prompts, three chosen models); Profound Starter $99/month (fifty prompts, ChatGPT only); SE Ranking Core $129/mo (100 prompts daily, inside a whole SEO platform); Scrunch Core $250/mo (125 prompts, four engines); AthenaHQ Starter $295/month (ten models); Profound Growth $399/month (three engines). Read on 14 August 2026, except the SE Ranking, Scrunch and Monde AI figures, read on 21 August 2026.

Which AEO tool covers the most engines for the least money?

engines per unit of money

Nothing paid, if you only need to look once: SE Ranking's AI Visibility Tracker page checks AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity against up to five competitors with no account, capped at five attempts a day, and AthenaHQ's free Essential tier covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, Gemini and Claude, metered by credit, with no competitor tracking. Read 21 August 2026 and 5 August 2026 respectively. Among paid plans it is Monde AI's Starter at €75/month, which is the only entry tier in this table carrying five engines; Otterly.AI's Lite at $29/month covers four and is the cheapest paid way to see more than one; Peec AI includes three chosen models at $80/mo out of six on offer, with a fourth buyable from $30/mo; Scrunch's $250/mo Core covers four; and Profound's $99/month Starter covers one. Omnia's Growth is €79/month and includes four, ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, with Claude, Gemini and Copilot "(available on request)", so it is not the engines-per-euro pick even though it sits near Monde AI on price. Engines are the row that moves most between vendors at the same price, and it is the row none of them puts next to the headline.

Do I need an AEO tool at all?

when you need one

Not to find out whether you have a problem, a free check or AthenaHQ's Essential tier answers that in an afternoon. You need one when the answer has to be watched rather than looked at once, because a single run is noise: the same prompt asked twice can name you once. What a paid plan buys is repetition on a schedule and a record you can compare week to week. If your product has eight buyer questions and you are being sold a fifty-prompt plan, the honest answer is that you need a smaller instrument, not a cheaper version of a large one.
